The Swim Bike Family has gone a little “green.”

We just signed the papers for a Nissan Leaf.  That’s right. The electric car.  Woot. With the Expert and me commuting about 75 miles a day (which is down from our previous 155 miles per day, thanks to relocating), we were tired of spending the gas and the emissions.  The transition to the electric car (which we will take turns using) is a seamlessly great idea.

And in the spirit of going even a little greener…  I am starting to wear recycled materials.  What? Whaaaa?  Okay… here’s the scoop.

So who has heard of Repreve? I am guessing not a whole lot of us.  I hadn’t heard of it until just recently. I think this is one of the cooler things I have ever been asked to “review” on my blog–and I learned so much too.

Repreve recycled fiber is used by leading brands to make the products more sustainable. When you buy products made with Repreve we’re helping to create a reprieve for our planet. Did you know that products that you already USE are made out of RECYCLED MATERIALS?  I was amazed at this list (go here to read!).

To name a few: one Patagonia fleece jacket with Repreve has 40 recycled plastic bottles, so you can be a real “active-ist.” And Life Khaki by Haggar uses Repreve to put 7 recycled plastic bottles in every pair of pants; so wear what you believe.

The really cool thing is that many products YOU KNOW are already using Repreve recycled fibers!

  1. That’s a good question. However, I see that article cites: Polyester, acrylic and polyamides (nylon) — which are obviously many kinds of everyday clothing as well… so I’ll see if Repreve can weigh in…

  2. I’d LOVE an awesome recycled/upcycled beanie, but I run in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and melt without a hat on! If I win, though, I’ll gladly gift it to my mom who runs in Alaska! 🙂

  3. I am all for this. I am a Master Composter and love turning trash into compost. Thanks for posting all the companies that make products from “garbage.”

  4. Would love to win this! Especially given the weather as of late in northern MN. Forecast for tonight is -30 (base temp, windchills will exceed that). I used to think that 10 to 15 degrees was my minimum for running outdoors. Times are desperate. I have now discovered that I am capable of running in single digits. Both above and below zero… I am not sure that is necessarily something to be excited about. But, winning the beanie would be!! 🙂

  5. Hi there Mandy,

As I’m sure you have deduced, we always encourage the proper waste disposal of plastics by recycling. Secondly, Repreve is made into a continuous filament, making it unlikely to break or fray and enter into the water stream. Take a look at our process for creating Repreve at: http://bit.ly/18X5qRG.

Thanks very much for your question and working hard to #TurnItGreen.

    Best,

    The Repreve Team
