My amazing friend surprised me with this gift. It was a true surprise–probably 6 years in the making.
The quilt is beautiful, but the card that came with it–brought tears to my eyes–and I needed to read it today.
Carrie, I hope you don’t mind that I shared some of your words here.
“This gift started many years ago…supposed to be a ‘road to IRONMAN’ quilt. Then life (cancer) slowed me to a complete stop for a while. Then you changed paths. Then more time passed and you kept evolving. At a certain point, I decided to scrap the IM concept, because it didn’t feel right anymore.
“I finally figured if I ever wanted to get this quilt to you, I needed to stop planning some great meaning into it. So here is where I am today.
“This is simply a gift to you, my friend. It’s no longer about triathlon or “just keep moving forward” or “year of no nonsense” or any of the many things I had ‘planned.’ It’s simply about friendship.”
Thank you, Carrie. This quilt is a beautiful metaphor for so many things! [You knew I would do this.] But it’s about friendship, evolving, taking action, and surviving–and beating cancer–and thriving. It’s about starting over, keeping going, and never giving up.
I love you! And I love this quilt so so so much. I will cherish it, our friendship and #fiftyclaps forever.
