These PJ pants are from the Beach 2 Battleship 140.6 race I finished in 2014. I have mixed emotions around these pants. (As if having mixed emotions around pants is normal behavior.)

First, because it’s still my “fastest” race. I finished right under 15 hours. Yay, me.

But it’s also the absolutely unhealthiest, worst version of myself who crossed that finish line.
Strange thing to say, right?

But in the weeks that followed that event, I developed several bouts of diverticulitis, and a case of shingles. I was drinking like a fish, eating crap, not sleeping. I was an “ironman” finisher, but I was in the worst health ever.

As I get ready to speak today in Portsmouth, New Hampshire at the Living Forward event by @rachel.martin.co, I will be sharing what I have learned over the last five years–most importantly, the last three that lead me to my #YearOfNoNonsense and beyond.

One of the main takeaways? I have learned that our “Health” is meaningless if it’s not OUR version of Health that means something to us. I can do all the IRONMAN races in the world, but that doesn’t mean I am healthy. Not in a way that matters to me.

I look forward to sharing this message today AND throughout 2019-2020. Coming to a city near you on the #YearOfNoNonsenseBook tour which launches at Brookline Booksmith in Boston on December 17th. So far, I’ll be stopping in: Charlotte and Jacksonville NC, San Diego, Chicago, Kansas City, Atlanta, Philly, Washington, DC and the great NYC.

Want me to come to your city? All you might have to do is ask.

📚The Year of No Nonsense: How to Get Over Yourself and On with Your Life lands December 17th, and is available now for pre-order where all da books are sold.
