Something like 75% of people are terrified of public speaking.

I can admit that I fell into that category for a really long time–it was part of the reason I wanted out of the practice of law.

I felt judged and I could never catch my breath, and it was a nightmare. Especially, when I would say dumb things.

But do you know what has given me the BIGGEST calm in front of an audience now?

THIS: The key to public speaking is to NEVER think about yourself; but rather, that you are there to serve the audience. To help the group. How can YOU be helpful to that group of people?

Now, before I do a talk, I simply say a quick prayer (or set an intention): “I am here to be valuable to this group today, in whatever way they need.”

Does it work? Am I instantly valuable? I have my doubts. 😆 BUT… it does calm me, and allows me to speak with an open heart and mind. And a steady voice. Hopefully that might help you the next time you’re called to stand up and speak… it really is about what we can share.

The more we share, the greater we call can be. 💜
